Testimonials for The Veterans Association

Stories from men and women who carried the weight long after service. These accounts highlight the reality behind the uniform — trauma, isolation, and a system that often looks away.

Please take the time to read through some of testimonials to see what our supported veterans are saying about our charity. If you or a family member have used our services, we would highly appreciate if you could leave us a Google review.

These testimonies exist so the silence around veteran hardship ends. Every story here represents veterans who were promised support but left to cope without it.

What a wonderful organization, and a friendly and hard-working group of individuals at this location. Very welcoming. A special mention to Lucy who goes above and beyond what anyone would expect, true empathy and compassion.

These guys were so helpful helping me out with household my fuel in March, they were easy to talk to and after a few checks by them my stress was lifted. I cant thank them enough.

What can I say, the Veterans Association has been an absolute Godsend; having suffered for many years with complex-ptsd, not only did Lucy and the team source me a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, they're paying for them too.

In addition, they're also helping with my current moving costs. All of my emails and calls to them are handled with concern, care, consideration and confidentiality.

Please, if you are a veteran in need help let them know, you won't regret it.

I’m writing this for my 91 year old dad Peter ,whom we only just realised was classed as a veteran after a respect meeting at his gp surgery.

Dad did his national service in the royal engineers at the age of 18 and has never classed himself as a veteran but we was guided to the veteran association at Birchington where we’ve been going for the last few months and it’s been incredible it’s given Dad a whole new lease of life !!

His never had many friends over the years it was always mums friends husbands but now his made new friends and really looks forward to his weekly visits the staff are so friendly and so helpful too giving advice on help that is available and he is so looking forward to his day trip next week to Hendon and I’m sure there will be many other things to look forward to these people do such an amazing job at helping fellow veterans.

Wow what can I say ! Just before Christmas my landlord told me I had 3 months notice as they were selling the property. I was heartbroken and very worried 😟

I applied to the council who next to useless and didn't want to help this old veteran. But all worries disappeared when I called into the Veterans association in Birchington and told Helen about my predicament.

She went into the back office to get Lucy who was very positive and promised to help me and the next day she phoned to tell me she had found me somewhere to call my forever home. A lovely two up two down house in Ramsgate which is perfect for all my needs. I cannot thank the Veterans Hub and especially Lucy for all the help and support given to me.

Hello everyone. My name is Charles I moved from Bristol with my wife to Birtchington Kent. I have never joined any organisation since I came out of the army.

Taking my wife to the doctor's for a appointment when I saw the Birtchington veterans association building. My wife said I should join and make friends here in Birchington.

I went in met a couple of ladies Helen and Olivia. Olivia took me for a chat with a nice cup of tea. Explained what they can do for me and my disabilied wife. Can't express the hard work they have done for us since moving here and the friends I have met.

Been very hard adapting to life here. The veterans association put us in contact with so many people who could help us so far it's been great. I don't have the words to say how much they have done for us and still helping.

I have found it hard to get down for a cuppa being busy with my wife getting things in order. But the association call on us to make sure we are ok and if we need anything. All I can said is thanks to all the people who have gone out of their way to help us you all have been fantastic. From my wife Vera and I thanks for all the help.

WO2 RLC, 24 Years Service

I served for 24 Years in the Army, I left as a WO2 in the RLC and have served within Airborne Forces, I finished my career in the Forces 7 years ago and I'd never asked for help before....until now.

I was going through an extremely difficult time at work and this in turn was affecting things at home, I happened to stumble across the Veterans Association, it took a lot for me to walk in as I wouldn't normally consider doing this.

I'm so glad I did as I was immediately welcomed. They listened, they empathised and they understood where I was coming from.

They have done nothing but help me, as they would for any Veteran and I appreciate their support immensely.

I cannot recommend this place enough and I have found John, Angie and Helen to be extremely warm, welcoming and understanding to not only me but also my family.

My wife recently had a major operation after cancer was discovered. This operation has left her with great difficulty in getting in and out of the bath for a shower...

I decided to put in a walk in shower. Being a Veteran myself I approached the Veterans Association for a grant after talking to friends who are also Veterans.

I filled in the required paperwork as requested and returned. The paperwork stated that I would have a decision within 28 days. I did in fact receive a decision in 48 hours which was approved.

The plumber starts work next Monday the 27th. All I can say on behalf of my wife Jackie and me is many, many thanks.

I will follow up with photos later.

Excellent people, very helpful. My regards to Olivia, Helen and the 2 Johns over the past 2 years — without their help I literally would have starved!

In addition, they've covered costs to help me get back into work. If not for their help my situation would have been critical and basically I'd have just given up on life I think.

These folks have been as good or better than the British Legion in my opinion.

Once back in work and solvent I will be donating back to them — respect where it's due.

Jules

As a veteran. Riley medical court and then transferring to the Queen Alexander’s. It is good to spend time in a place which is focused on the King and country.

Great coffee and a really friendly atmosphere.

All welcome — so buying a hot drink actually helps Veterans.

Helvy

My husband took me to this venue. Lovely little place — it's worth checking out.

A variety of drinks and they will be doing some snacks soon.

I'm delighted to email with regards to my military badges I lost at the remembrance day parade. I have them and all lovely...

When I am in the position to visit your Birchington HUB in the better weather, I most certainly will do that.

Once again thank you so very much. Happy Christmas and New Year to all you angels. Xxx
